Time to Wine Down: Exquisite Cellars Crafted Just for You

For whatever reason, I seem to be missing the chip that detects the state known as “maximum capacity.” So, in the midst of a (thankfully) busy summer of meeting new clients, managing multiple job sites and endeavouring to keep our workers both socially distanced and safe from the sweltering heat, I decided the most reasonable thing to do would be to intensify our workload by starting up a sister company to C&C. 

I had noticed that more and more of our clients were bringing up the subject of wine storage. And not just the traditional types of cellars, but “wine walls” made of everything from glass and ironwork to antique wood. Some are actually freestanding structures that can serve as pieces of artwork in their own right. 

So, I discussed this venture with my four-legged business advisors Purdey and Pippa and received a unanimous paws up (in exchange for several treats, but let’s just chalk that up to the cost of doing business). Now it was time to take it to the top brass. 

When I presented the idea that the demand was there for innovative wine storage spaces (and of course, we had the bandwidth to build loads of them), my lovely wife Victoria looked at me as if I’d grown a second head and queried, “So, people are actually saying, ‘Please come and build a massive wall of wine in the middle of my house.’?” 

Of course, I had my rebuttal in queue. “Well, it’s not so crazy when you think of all the people who are having to skip their favourite wine bar because there are only six tables available approximately eighty feet apart. And drinking a vintage cabernet with a cloth mask hanging off one ear isn’t exactly an elegant experience.”

“Goodness!", she replied, “What an exquisite idea!” …And thus Exquisite Wine Cellars was born.

Controlled Conditions – Heat is enemy number one for wine. Temperatures higher than 70 degrees will age a wine more quickly than is desirable. And living in the desert, it’s all too easy to exceed that benchmark and leave you with wine that is “cooked”, resulting in flat aromas and flavours. The effects of light exposure and humidity levels also need to be considered when it comes to preserving your treasured bottles. We take the science behind the storage as seriously as we do the aesthetics of design.
